New Technology
The technology in the 1920's was starting to advance and become noticed more. The Phonograph was the earliest so called "talking machine”, this machine aloud people all over to play records, mostly jazz. This Phonograph was patented by Thomas A. Edison in the year 1878. Sony Company started to develop its digital movie sound- Sony started to work with japan, on developing a digital sound format for movies that would bring compact disk quality audio to movie theaters. The stereo and surround sounds were dated back to the 1920's and are still improving today. Before the surround sound we had Silent movies and it was incredible that they could even put that up onto a screen, they advanced even further. However during this time Fords motor company took off and became famous for the first car the, model T. Although a lot of technology for entertainment and transportation industry’s evolved and advanced in the 1920's so did Medicine and medical equipment. And lastly again from Entertainment, Cameras were further advanced-High tech cameras, larger formatted cameras. An American photographer Edward Weston used large-format cameras, Mr. Edward believed he had lenses capable of capturing a detailed accuracy that he and others could admire. A type of camera renowned Japanese’s photographer used was the Leica cameras; The Kimura believed that the so called compact camera was potentially "as good as the human eye."(The Kimura).
Connection to Great Gatsby
The connection between the 1920s and Gatsby would be that people considered Gatsby a Bootlegger, Wild parties and lots of big events and alcohol. They also considered him from “New” money instead of “Old” which in the 1920s new money was considered bad and ashamed because you were not inherited the money. The rich of the new money were on one side of the lake in the book and the rich of the inherited old money was on the other. West egg and east egg. This book written by F. Scott Fitzgerald shows wealth, politics, traditions/culture, love and advancement of people and things during the 1920s.You read of the big parties with the Live jazz bands and woman in costumes and dressed to perform, The memories of the war and how Gatsby got to be the man he wanted to be and had always felt he was destined to be, the love and the wealth he earned himself and his American dream.
“The Carraways are something of a clan, and we have a tradition that we're descended from the Dukes of Buccleuch, but the actual founder of my line was my grandfather's brother, who came here in fifty-one, sent a substitute to the Civil War, and started the wholesale hardware business that my father carries on today". (Nick, Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald.) This is nick looking back on his family’s nobility but instead sees what he has pictured as the American dream.

They were careless people, Tom and Daisy – they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together and let other people clean up the mess they had made ..."(136-145, Nick)
This Quote from nick shows that money can’t fill a void and that wealthy people get away with so much more because of their money and their crimes seem more important to lower class peoples.
